Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING STRUCK-BY THE LOAD : a)Kill Floor, on or about 6/21/02: Overhead hoists, including but not limited to those used for hide removal, were not being inspected on a frequent and periodic basis. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible method of abatement is to: 1). Conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the hoists for wear, deterioration and malfunction as per ASME B30.16-1987. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
