Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards by not using manufacturer approved fall arrest equipment: a) Two employees were observed, washing the exterior windows of the pedestrian overpass walkway at 3801 South National Street from boatswain's chairs, without personal fall protection equipment approved and designed by the manufacturer for this type of work (PETZL rope grab). Among the methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to replace the equipment with personal fall arrest systems that the manufacturer has designed and approved for such usage.
