Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by and electrical shock hazards: (a)Hernando area jobsite - During the period of January 1, 1997, through February 20, 1997, the employer failed to repair or replace before use the following vehicles which were unsafe: i.Bucket Truck B8529 had a damaged bucket with a cracked liner, needed its bucket covers replaced, had a hydraulic leak in the top control. ii.Bucket Truck B8425 had damaged bucket covers, air leak in top control, leak in top control. iii.Bucket Truck B8854 needed its bucket covers replaced, had a leak on the air tank for the brakes. iv.Bucket Truck B8665 needed it bucket covers replaced. v.Truck D8616 had teeth missing on pinion and bull gears. vi.Truck D8816 had a defective horn and motor blades. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to perform dielectric test on all aerial devices on at least an annual basis.
