Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of steel joists collapsing and employees being crushed by steel joists and/or bundles of metal decking: a)Center area of the construction site, on or about 06/05/97: Bundles of metal decking were placed on steel joists before bridging was installed. One feasible method, among other methods, to reduce this hazard is not to place any load other than the weight of one erector on the joist until all bridging is completely installed, per the Steel Joist Institute specification, Section 6, Erection Stability and Handling Open Web Steel Joists, K- Series.
