Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being pulled into and crushed by the revolving auger of the slipform paving machine: a)JFK Terminal #4 Airside. Employees were cleaning cement off of the unguarded revolving auger of a Gemaco Slipform Paver; on or about 4/13/99. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible method to reduce this hazard is to. 1)Follow the manufactures operator's manual which states on page #45 in section #3 under WARNING THE AUGERS CONTINUOUSLY WHEN WASHING THE MACHINE". "WHEN WASHING THE AUGERS, THEY MUST NOT BE OPERATING".
