Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling from an elevated platform: a)On or about 07/30/98 - warehouse area A wood pallet was placed on the forks of a TCM Fork Lift Truck and used to elevate employees in order to gain access to merchandise stored up to 15 feet high. Employees were not provided with an appropriate safety platform to access upper levels and were exposed to a fall hazard. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO: Utilize only platforms designed for use in elevating personnel with forklifts, in accordance with the requirements set forth in ANSI/ASME B56.1-1993, Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks, Section 4.17 Elevating Personnel and Section 7.35 Platforms-Elevating. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED.
