Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to burns, electrical shock, and smoke inhalation from fires, electrical contact, and explosion due to the use of unapproved electrical equipment: In the following instances electrical equipment was not operated or maintained in a safe condition: a)Barn 84 - The electrical conduit mounted on the south wall was broken and hanging in two places. b)70's Complex, Tool Room - The power cord on the bench grinder was not provided with strain relief. c)Hatchery - The ceiling light in the ladies room was not adequately supported and was hanging. d)Hatchery - The ceiling light in the mens room was not adequately supported and was hanging. e)Hatchery, Disinfectant Room - The face plate on the switch box located at the rear of the washer was bent so as to break the watertight seal. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install approved gaskets, covers, hangers, connectors, and fittings. Your company was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 122375512, Citation Number 1, item number 1, issued on 07/12/96.
