Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a. A crushing hazard created by the sudden and unpredictable descent of vehicles elevated overhead by hydraulic overhead automotive lifts. a) Service area, bay #1, Glove type FSR-28 lift with inoperative load lock assembly. b) Service area, bay #4, Globe type FS-28 lift with automatic lock assembly missing. c) Service Area, bay #5, Globe type FS-28 lift with automatic lock assembly missing. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1. Install and/or implement weekly inspections. 2. Establish and implement weekly inspections. 3. Instruct all employees in the proper use of safe devices and ensure their routine use. 4. Post manufacturer's operating instructions reference Publication: ANSI/ALI B153.1-1990, Section 4.1.11 and all of section 7. Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc. was previously cited for violations of this Occupational Health and Safety Standard; Section 5(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 102583317, citation number 01, item number 01, issued on 11/21/90, and OSHA inspection number 100889971, citation number 01, item number 01, issued on 2/5/91, and OSHA inspection number 106489586, citation number 01, item number 01, issued on 5/5/92.
