Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a. On or about February 13, 2025, employees were exposed to an ingoing nip point located at the head pulley of the Emergency Gypsum Conveyor 1 (EGC1) when restarting /belt alginment activities took place due to an approximately 8 inch by 4 inch opening. As a result, the condition exposed employees to a caught-in hazard. b. On or about February 13, 2025, employees were exposed to pinch points and rotating parts located along the north and south catwalk of the Emergency Gypsum Conveyor 1 (EGC1) when walkaround inspection activities took place due to unguarded idle rollers operating under the moving conveyor belt. As a result, the conditions exposed employees to caught-in hazards. c. On or about February 13, 2025, employees were exposed to pinch points and rotating parts located along the south catwalk of the Gypsum Conveyor 1 (GC1) when walkaround inspection activities took place due to unguarded idle rollers operating under the moving conveyor belt. As a result, the conditions exposed employees to caught-in hazards. Ohio Valley Electric Corporation was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1) which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1720734, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on April 17, 2024, with respect to a workplace located at 5758 Ohio 7, Cheshire, OH 45620.
