Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about September 21, 1994, the general contractor did not ensure the employees of it's subcontractor D.J. Construction were provided/and enforced the use of fall protection for employees working on the roof installing plywood thereby exposing employees to a fall hazard of 20 feet. The Borror Corporation was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.5(a)(1) which was contained in OSHA inspection number 18175950, citation number 1, item number 1, issued on 9-20-94. Among the feasible means of abatement that can be used to correct this condition are. 1. Provide and enforce the use of conventional fall protection such as, but not limited to, safety harnesses, lifelines, or catch platforms. 2. Use of personnel fall arrest systems while working on the roof installing plywood. OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE 29 CFR 1926.95(a): Protective equipment was not used where it was necessary by reason of hazards encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body: On or about September 21, 1994, the general contractor did not ensure it's subcontractors employees were provided fall protection such as, but not limited to, safety harnesses and lifelines, or catch platforms thereby exposing employees to a 20 feet fall hazard.es
