29 CFR 1926.501(b)(13):"Residential construction." Each employee engaged in residential construction activities 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels shall be protected by guardrail systems, safety net system, or personal fall arrest system unless another provision in paragraph (b) of this section provides for an alternative fall protection measure. On or about September 14, 2022, employees conducting roofing installation operations on the upper level of a residential single-family property were exposed to fall hazards of approximately 20 feet when the employer failed to ensure that fall protection was utilized. The employer was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1926.501(b)(11), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1599541, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on August 8, 2022, with respect to a workplace located at 1240 S. Dement Rd., Rochelle, Illinois. The employer was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1926.501(b)(13), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1425256, citation number 1, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on November 14, 2019, with respect to a workplace located at 553 Greystone Ln., Bolingbrook, Illinois. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
