Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.651(k)(1): Daily inspections of excavations, the adjacent areas, and protective systems were not made by a competent person for evidence of a situation that could have resulted in possible cave-ins, indications of failure of protective systems, hazardous atmosphere, or other hazardous conditions: a) 1910 Peregrine Dr. in Brighton, CO: On 06/18/2022, an inspection of the excavation and adjacent areas at the site location was not completed prior to the start of excavation work activities. The employer, who identified himself as the competent person, failed to classify the soil type, and ensure that proper cave-in protection was being utilized or prevent workers from entering the excavation. The crew was locating a residential sanitary sewer line and one worker entered the unprotected excavation at a depth of approximately 11 - 13 feet. The worker was exposed to cave-in hazards.
