29 CFR 1926.102(a)(1): The employer does not ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation: a. Employees performing roofing work are not protected from eye injuries while using pneumatic nail guns. The employer fails to assure effective protections against eye and face injuries as required by the standard, as demonstrated on April 26, 2022, when employees are working on a commercial roof at 1285 St Johns Parkway, St Johns, Florida, without eye protection while using pneumatic nail guns and are exposed to eye injuries from flying debris or nails. Lewis Walker Roofing, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1926.1926.102(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1258051, citation number 1, item number 1(a), and was affirmed as a final order on October 12, 2017, with respect to a workplace located at 3901 SW 20th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32607.
