29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i): Except as provided elsewhere in this section 29 CFR 1910.28, the employer did not ensure that each employee on a walking-working surface with an unprotected side or edge that is 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level is protected from falling by one or more of the systems described in 29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i): a. On or about November 5, 2020, in the processing sorting machine area, near the chutes leading down to the mail containers on the ground, employees performing maintenance and mail search task are walking on a 5-inch wide catwalk that was missing a midrail, exposing employees to a fall hazards. b. On or about November 5, 2020, in the processing sorting area, employees performing maintenance and mail search task are walking on catwalks without an endrail, exposing employees to a fall hazard. U.S. Postal Service was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.28(b)(1)(i), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1335018, citation number 1 item number1 and was affirmed as a final order on September 18, 2018, with respect to a workplace located at 7415 Commonwealth Ave, Jacksonville, Florida.
