29 CFR 1926.501(b)(10): Each employee engaged in roofing activities on low-slope roofs, with unprotected sides and edges 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels was not protected from falling by guardrail systems, safety net systems, personal fall arrest systems, or a combination of warning line system and guardrail system, warning line system and safety net system, or warning line system and personal fall arrest system, or warning line system and safety monitoring system: The employer does not protect each employee from a fall hazard while working on a low sloped roof with an unprotected side or edge which is 17.5 feet above a lower level by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. a) This most recently occurred on February 11, 2019, at 28205 W. Commercial Ave., Lake Barrington, Illinois 60010. Employees are exposed to the hazard of falling approximately 17.5 feet to the ground, while engaged in snow and ice removal work along an unprotected edge of the roof. To abate this hazard in the future, the employer must ensure that it's employees are protected from hazard of falling while performing roofing work along unprotected edge of the roof. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, the employer must submit documents describing the steps it is taking to ensure compliance, including an explanation of how these steps protect it's employees from fall hazards.
