29 CFR 1910.134(k): The employer did not provide comprehensive, understandable training which did not occur annually and/or more often if necessary: (a) The employer did not provide training regarding the use of respiratory protection to all welders required to wear respirators in their job assignments. Not all aluminum welders were trained on respiratory protection regarding: why a respirator is necessary, the limitations and capabilities of the respirators used, inspecting the respirators used, the procedures for maintenance and storage of the respirators used, or how to recognize medical signs and symptoms that may limit or prevent the effective use of respirators. This exposed employees to hazardous airborne contaminants for which a respirator was the only method of exposure protection in place.
