Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) Fill Area, Line 5 Valve Machine; On or about October 25, 2017, and at times prior, the employer exposed employees to amputation hazards in that rotating parts on the KP Valve Inserter Unit (Model 123-U-7, SN 108) were not guarded to prevent employees from having any part of the body in the danger zone during normal operations. PLZ Aeroscience was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.212(a)(3)(ii), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1221565, citation number 1, item number 3 and was affirmed as a final order on September 14, 2017, with respect to a workplace located at 310 Brookhollow Rd. S.E., Dalton, Georgia 30721.
