Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: The employer is failing to protect employees from amputation hazards associated with using a horizontal band saw with the non-cutting portion of the blade left unguarded. The most recent occurrence of this was found at the facility located at 1310 Fort Crook Road North, Bellevue, NE where the employer has maintenance employees using the horizontal band saw in fabrication of parts and equipment without guarding the unused portion of the blade to the right side of the cutting area. The Bimbo Bakeries USA, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.212 (a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1041771, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on 4/23/2015, with respect to a workplace located at 150 Boulder Road, Breinigsville, PA 18031.
