Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
P.L. 91-596 Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling from an elevated wooden pallet: A- Warehouse - An employee was removing electrical conduit from a wooden pallet that was elevated approximately 8 feet above the ground by a Nissan Enduro 35 forklift without fall protection and without having the pallet secured to the mast of the forklift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that employees utilize a safety platform that is equipped with standard guardrails and ensure that safety chains are used to secure the work platform to the mast of the forklift.
