Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: On or about August 18, 1994, the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of employees being displaced and/or being struck by falling steel members and sheeting when the employees were attempting to remove two (2) bundles of steel roofing decking placed across moving or rolling cambered longspan joists; the employer did not insure the safe removal of loads placed on longspan steel joists, that were not bridged, braced or welded exposing employees to the hazard of being crushed by the falling material. Among others, one feasible and useful means of abatement would be to use aerial lifts.
