29 CFR 1926.102(a)(1): The employer does not ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation: a. Employees performing roofing work are not protected from eye injuries while using pneumatic nail guns. The employer fails to assure effective protections against eye and face injuries as required by the standard, as demonstrated on February 3, 2017, when an employee is working on a residential roof at 30 Milliken Lane, Saint Augustine, Florida, without eye protection while using pneumatic nail guns and is exposed to eye injuries from flying debris or nails. Great White Construction was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1926.1926.102(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 997948, citation number 2, item number 1, and was affirmed as a final order on April 15, 2015, with respect to a workplace located at 228 Melissa Ray Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
