Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.501(b)(13): "Residential construction." Each employee engaged in residential construction activities 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels shall be protected by guardrail systems, safety net system, or personal fall arrest system unless another provision in paragraph (b) of this section provides for an alternative fall protection measure. Employees are exposed to fall hazards while engaged in construction activities 6 feet or more above lower levels. The employer does not protect each employee by means of a guardrail system, safety net system, or personal fall arrest system. The following instance most recently occurred November 3, 2016, at the above addressed jobsite: Employees engaged in framing operations on the second level of a residential property are not protected against a fall, thereby exposing employees to a 14.4 foot fall. To abate this hazard in the future, the employer must ensure that its employees performing residential construction activities are protected from falls, and that no employee is exposed to a six foot fall or greater without adequate fall protection. Abatement documentation required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
