29 CFR 1910.22(c): Covers and/or guardrails were not provided to protect personnel from the hazards of open pits, tanks, vats, ditches, etc. (a) Production - On or about August 17, 2016, the employer did not ensure that a cover was provided to protect employees from hazards of an open pit near Press 62. On August 17, 2016, a maintenance employee working on top of Press 62 slipped and fell from approximately 23 feet into the pit. In accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete and must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase, or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records. Chicago Powdered Metal Products Co. was previously cited for a violation of this OSHA Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard, 29 CFR 1910.22(c) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 1139211, Citation number 1, Item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on June 15, 2016, with respect to a workplace located at 9700 Waveland Ave, Schiller Park, Illinois 60176.
