Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING

5(a)(1) a.Village of White Fall Office Building, Fairmont, WV - Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards tha t were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries. The following conditions cont ributed to this hazard: (1) The trusses being erected were not adequately braced . (2) The contractor did not follow the bracing instructions provided to him by the roof truss designer/ fabricator and failed to provide required numbers and t ypes of temporary bracings specified for the 48 ft-length span truss. Among othe rs one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to follow recommen dations provided by the truss manufacturer and developed by the Truss Plate Inst itute.
