Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from elevations: (a)Warehouse, Aisle G, Bird Cage Area - Two (2) employees were elevated over twelve (12) feet on a 40" by 48" wooden pallet suspended on the forks of a forklift truck with no fall protection; on or about 9/26/95. ABATEMENT NOTES Among others, one suitable method for abating this hazardous condition is: 1.Utilize only platforms designed for use elevating personnel with forklifts. These platforms must meet the requirements set forth in ANSI/ASME B56.1-1993 such as, but not limited to, fall protection for employees. 2.Train all employees about the hazards of falls associated with improper elevating methods, and the proper application and use of safety platforms.
