Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by molten salt when putting wet material into the caustic "Kolene" salt bath. a) Pickling Room, BFS, on or about 6/13/91 - Employees were pickling tubes and billets in molten Kolene salt bath. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is to thoroughly dry the product before immersion into the molten salt tank, and the training and education of the pickling room employees in the hazards associated with placing wet material into molten salt baths.
