Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock, burns, or electrocution. a) M/V Sea Alaska: Employees in the switch gear area had occasion to work near the circuit breaker box in which the circuit breaker switch had been removed. Such exposed current carrying parts subjected the employees to the potential hazard of coming into contact with the live parts, resulting in electrical shock, burns, and/or electrocution. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to purchase a plastic insert or fabricate a cover and install it over the exposed current carrying parts. b) M/V Sea Alaska: Employees in the starboard side shop had occasion to work near the circuit breaker box in which the circuit breaker switch had been removed. Such exposed current carrying parts subjected the employees to the potential hazard of coming into contact with the live parts, resulting in electrical shock, burns, and/or electrocution. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to purchase a plastic insert or fabricate a cover and install it over the exposed current carrying parts. Trident Seafoods Corporation was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard or its equivalent standard which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 107100414, Citation Number 1, Item Number 1, issued on 04/21/88.
