29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a. Marvel 25 bandsaws, Wyman Gordon, 244 Worcester Street, North Grafton, Massachusetts; The employer did not provide guards sufficient to protect employees from exposed blades while operating Marvel bandsaws to trim metal parts. 1. Gap from the part to the blade guard on the first part was approximately 3 inches 2. Gap from the part to the blade guard on the second part was approximately 4 inches b. Wyman Gordon Company, 244 Worcester Street, North Grafton, Massachusetts; Milling machines were not guarded to prevent employees from coming into contact with the point of operation: 1. Machine shop, Olympia Milling Machine - The milling machine was not guarded at the point of operation to protect the employees from amputation hazards. 2. Maintenance Hut - The Bridgeport milling machine in the maintenance shop was not guarded to prevent employees from access at the point of operations. 3. Machine shop, multi-spindle milling machine with rotating table, was not guarded at the point of operation to protect the employees from amputation hazards. Wyman Gordon was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 315110767, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on April 29, 2011, with respect to a workplace located at 3097 E. 61st Street, Cleveland, Ohio.
