Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that on or about 6/15/92, employees operating or riding freight elevator were exposed to the hazard of being stranded in a non-functioning elevator, due to malfunction; power failure, fire and had no emergency communication system available for use in the elevator. One feasible and acceptable abatement among others to correct this system as stipulated in ASME/ANSI A17.3 Section 3.11.1. a) 66 Furman Street, Brooklyn, N.Y. - Elevator car #2738 and 2739 on West side of building was not provided with an emergency signal system. The National Cold Storage,Inc was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard or its equivalent standard, 5(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 109895979, Citation Number 1, Item Number 1, issued on 8/17/90 with Final Order Date of 9/6/90.
