Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: Employees in the Slab Yard area were subject to the hazards of broken crane and lifting devices and dropped slabs when: (a) Crane suspended , below the hook lifting devices, such as the four (4) Heppenstal tong style slab lifters used on Cranes #301, 302, 303 and 304 to lift steel slabs were not clearly marked to show the lifting capacity or restrictions. Feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard among others, is: (a) To mark all below the hook lifting devices with the rated load capacity. The Armco Steel Co., L.P. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.179(b)(3): which was contained in OSHA inspection number 101318483, citation number 01, item number 003, issued on 12/28/90.
