Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) M/V Arctic Star: Employees in the engine room shop had occasion to work near or use the drill press that did not have a cover plate over the power switch. This condition subjected the employees to the possibility of contacting current carrying parts, resulting in shock, burns or electrocution. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a cover plate over the switch. Icicle Seafoods, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard or its equivalent standard which was contained in OSHA inspection Number 107295057, Citation Number 1, Item Number 1, issued on 09/11/89.
