Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an increased risk of developing CTD from tasks that they were performing and engineering and administrative controls were not implemented: The employee in department 25, group 01, job 27, shift 02, L/S FNDR MLDG INST who repeatedly performs tasks which require various ergonomic stresses such as, but not limited to, shoulder abduction, ulnar deviation, pinch grip, forearm rotation and fine manipulation which are likely to result in cumulative trauma disorders. On or about 2-15-90. Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are: 1) Use of a small lightweight screwdriver to tighten screws that are tightened by hand. 2) Turn cars on side to reduce shoulder abduction. 3) Provide additional tool design to reduce shoulder abduction and ulnar deviation for the installation of two screws.
