Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an increased risk of developing CTD from tasks that they were performing and engineering and administrative controls were not implemented: The employee in department 17, group 26, job 38, shift 02, L/S PILLAR POST who repeatedly performs tasks which require various ergonomic stresses such as, but not limited to, forceful pinch grip, wrist flexion and excessive stress on wrist and elbow tendons which are likely to result in cumulative trauma disorders. On or about 2-14-90. Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are: 1) Use mechanical device to grip connector while securing it to eliminate pinch grip. 2) Raise platform so this work can be done with elbows close to operator's sides. 3) Direct operator to strike cover with an underhand motion (palm supinated in front of body and the mallet is thrust upward by flexing the elbow).
