29 CFR 1910.334(a)(2)(i): Portable cord and plug connected equipment and flexible cord sets (extension cords) were not visually inspected before use on any shift for external defects (such as loose parts, deformed and missing pins, or damage to outer jacket or insulation) and for evidence of possible internal damage (such as pinched or crushed outer jacket). The employer does not ensure that flexible cords are inspected to ensure they are not damaged, exposing employees to electrical hazards. a) This violation was observed on or about April 17, 2023, where multiple damaged extension cords were observed in use. The cords were located along the west wall in the middle of the facility. b) This violation was observed on or about May 11, 2023, where multiple damaged cords were observed in use. The cords were located in the south end of the facility by the paint booth. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the date of this citation, the employer must submit documentation describing the steps taken to ensure flexible cords are inspected to ensure damaged cords are removed from service.
