Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 023A Hazard: REFINERY
29 CFR 1910.157(c)(1): The employer did not ensure portable fire extinguishers are provided and mounted, located and identified so that they were readily accessible without subjecting the employees to injuries: ALON USA, LP, 200 Refinery Road, Big Spring, TX. The employer does not ensure all fire extinguishers are properly mounted. This violation was observed on or about April 15, 2009 in the following instances: a) Fire extinguishers were found in the SRU #1 that were sitting on the floor. b) Fire extinguishers were found in the SRU #2 that were sitting on the floor. c) Fire extinguishers were found in the Alkylation Unit that were sitting on the floor. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the date of this citation, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that fire extinguishers are properly mounted, identified and readily accessible for the safe use of employees.
