Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 019 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards due to a defective automotive lift: (a) 215-B Lincoln Ave. Extension Alignment shop area; On or about 07/27/07 the safety locks on the ALM automotive lift were not functional. In addition, the operation's manual was not readily available for review by employees and there was no certification record available from the employer to indicate that a preventive maintenance program was being conducted. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct this hazard is to repair the safety locks on the ALM automotive lift, make the operation manual available for employee review and establish and document a preventive maintenance program in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and ANSI/ALI ALCTV-1998.
