Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an increased risk of developing CTD from tasks that they were performing and engineering and administrative controls were not implemented: The employee in department 11, group 12, job 19, shift 01, DRILL GAS TANK DOOR who repeatedly performs tasks which require various ergonomic stresses such as, but not limited to, wrist flexion, ulnar deviation, and shoulder abduction which are likely to result in cumulative trauma disorders. On or about 2-16-90. Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are: 1) Automate or semi-automate task. 2) Design three-pronged drill with guide fixture attached. 3) Alter drill to have a universal joint. 4) Alter work station to eliminate shoulder abduction on spot weld portion of task.
