Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of contact with a moving saw blade: a) Maintenance Shop - The band saw was not equipped with a magnetic restarter or similar device, as prescribed by the American National Standards, ANSI B11.10-1990, Section 5.2.3.4, that in the event of an interruption in the electrical supply would prevent the saw from restarting automatically when power is restored. One feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to provide a magnetic restarter or similar device as required by ANSI B11.10-1990. Abatement certification required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
