Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 015B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.219(f)(3): Sprockets and chains. All sprocket wheels and chains shall be enclosed unless they are more than seven (7) feet above the floor or platform. Where the drive extends over other machine or working areas, protection against falling shall be provided. This subparagraph does not apply to manually operated sprockets: a. On or about February 28, 2018, located in the Mill Room behind a Jones rubber mill, there was an overhead conveyor that did not have guard over its chain and three sprockets that were at a maximum height of approximately 5 feet 4 inches, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in hazard. b. On or about February 28, 2018, located at the Banbury Mixer, employees operated a dump container to load the Banbury. Approximately 32 inches under the container were two sets of unguarded chains and sprockets, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in hazard.
