29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. a. On or about August 4, 2016, located at the northeastern section on the 2nd floor of the former Columbus Municipal Light Plant, employees worked around and threw scrap material from an unguarded section of the floor, thereby exposing the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 10 feet. b. On or about August 4, 2106, located at the northwestern section on the 2nd floor of the former Columbus Municipal Light Plant, employees worked around and threw scrap material from an unguarded section of the floor, thereby exposing the employee to a fall hazard of approximately 10 feet. c. On or about August 4, 2016, located at the northeastern section of the 3rd floor of the former Columbus Municipal Light Plant, employees worked around and threw scrap material from an unguarded section of the floor, thereby exposing the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 22 feet. d. On or about August 4, 2016, located at the garage door at the eastern end of the former Columbus Municipal Light Plant, employees removed scrap from an unprotected opening while the door was in the up position, thereby exposing the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 9 feet. e. On or about August 4, 2016, located at the northern 4th floor at the former Columbus Municipal Light Plant, employees removed batteries from the floor while the employees were exposed to a fall hazard of approximately 15 feet. f. On or about August 4, 2016, located on the southwestern portion of the 6th floor near the stairwell, there was an open-sided floor along the western wall on both floors that was approximately 25 feet long by one foot wide, thereby exposing the employees to trip/fall hazards. g. On or about August 4, 2016, located near the southern middle stairway on the 6th floor, there were no guardrails along approximately 20 feet on the eastern side of the floor, thereby exposing the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 40 feet. h. On or about August 4, 2016, located near the southern middle stairway on the 5th floor, there were no guardrails along approximately 20 feet on the eastern side of the floor, thereby exposing the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 20 feet. i. On or about August 4, 2016, located near the southern middle stairway on the 4th floor, there were no guardrails along approximately 20 feet on the eastern side of the floor, thereby exposing the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 10 feet. j. On or about August 4, 2016, located near the southeastern stairway on the 6th floor, there were no guardrails along approximately 20 feet on the western side of the floor, thereby exposing the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 40 feet. k. On or about August 4, 2016, located near the southeastern stairway on the 5th floor, there were no guardrails along approximately 20 feet on the western side of the floor, thereby exposing the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 20 feet. l. On or about August 4, 2016, located near the southeastern stairway on the 4th floor, there were no guardrails along approximately 20 feet on the western side of the floor, thereby exposing the employee's to a fall hazard of approximately 10 feet.
