Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling loads: (a) Facility, McLaughlin Run Road, Pittsburgh, PA: On or about April 21, 2009, frequent (monthly) hoist inspections are not being conducted. In addition, the periodic (yearly) hoist inspections are not being conducted in accordance with the hoist manufacturer's recommendations. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the hoists in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and ASME B30.11 and ASME B30.16.
