Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 013 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: On or about September 14, 2015, employees were exposed to caught-in and struck-by hazards when the following were not guarded or were inadequately guarded: a. inadequate guarding at the chicken grinder hopper: the metal bars that flip over into the hopper do not prevent an employee from reaching past the bars to the auger at the bottom of the hopper. b. no guarding on the sealer rollers on line three: employees hold the top of the bag as the bag passes through the rollers. c. no guarding on the backup sealer rollers on line three: employees hold the top of the bag as the bag passes through the rollers d. there are holes in the wall of the guard that are used to attach a marker to the sealer machine where the sealer bars are located on line two. The interlock on the doors does not work and doors are not latched. e. Batter applicator drive on line 2 has a bent guard exposing employees to rotating equipment. h. pinch point on conveyor as it passes over the roller on line 3 at end of scoop station i. pinch point on conveyor as it passes over the roller on line 3 at the start of scoop station j. pinch point on conveyor as it passes over the roller on line 3 upstream from scoop station k. pinch point on conveyor as it passes over the roller on line 2 at transition from metal detector and pack out l. pinch point on conveyor as it passes over the roller on line 2 at pack out m. pinch point on conveyor as it passes over the roller on line 2 at the XL breader. n. pinch point on conveyor as it passes over the roller on line 1 at the exit end of the breader where operators handle the chicken before it goes into the fryer. o. pinch point on lay-on conveyor as it passes over the roller on line 1 p. pinch point at conveyor drive roller at entrance to the fryer on line 1 q. pinch point on conveyor as it passes over the roller on line 2 during clean up In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
