29 CFR 1910.134(h)(2)(i): Respirators were not stored to protect them from damage, contamination, dust, sunlight, extreme temperatures, excessive moisture, and damaging chemicals or were not packed or stored to prevent deformation of the facepiece and exhalation valve: a. On or about October 7, 2014, paint mix/storage trailer, an elastomeric half mask air purifying respirator with filters and organic cartridges was not stored covered to protect from contamination, dust, and damaging chemicals and was left on a bench where paint and primer were mixed. Employees were required to wear elastomeric half mask respirators during top coat and primer spray operations and were exposed to hazardous airborne chemicals including but not limited to isophorone diisocyanate, mineral spirits, and acetone. b. On or about October 15, 2014, paint mix/storage trailer, an elastomeric half mask air purifying respirator with filters and organic cartridges was not stored covered to protect from contamination, dust, and damaging chemicals and was left on a paint can during a break period. Employees were required to wear elastomeric half mask respirators during top coat and primer spray operations and were exposed to hazardous airborne chemicals that include but are not limited to isophorone diisocyanate, mineral spirits, and acetone.
