Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a possible crushing and/or amputation hazard due to the unexpected operation of the hydraulic press: (a) Facility, Bay 2, McLaughlin Run Road, Pittsburgh, PA: On or about April 21, 2009, there was no guard over the foot pedal on the Greenerd hydraulic press. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to put a guard on the foot pedal and/or stop the practice of using the foot pedal and use the two hand palm buttons that are available on the machine.
