Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an increased risk of developing CTD from tasks that they were performing and engineering and administrative controls were not implemented: The third of three employees in department 11, group 04, job 81, shift 02, shelf robot, who repeatedly performed tasks which require various ergonomic stresses such as, but not limited to, shoulder abduction while exerting force and wrist flexion, which are likely to result in cumulative trauma disorders. On or about 2-16-90. Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are: 1) Automate process. 2) Lower work height to eliminate some of shoulder abduction yet taking care not to introduce additional awkward wrist postures. 3) Adjust work station heights to suit individual workers.
