Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 010 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) On or about January 25, 2024 the employer did not ensure that effective machine guarding was in place on the iron worker in the facility. Effective machine guarding was not in to protect employees from the punch station area of the equipment of the angle shear area. Additionally the back portion of the shear area did not contain guarding. b)On or about January 25, 2024 the employer did not ensure that effective machine guarding was in place on the large Cincinnati shear. Employees were not protected from the material hold down clamps as well as the shear itself. Employees operate the shear to cut varying gauge steel without guarding being adjusted accordingly to prevent employees from reaching the hazard areas. c) On or about January 25, 2024 the employer did not ensure that effective machine guarding was in place on the Vickers alligator shear. Effective machine guarding was not in place to protect employees from the pinch created by the upper die/ ram meeting the lower components.
