29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.: a. On or about February 28, 2018, located in the Finishing Room, employees operated a 15-1/2 inch Sears Craftsman drill press that did not have a chuck guard, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in hazard. b. On or about March 7, 2018, located in the Tool & Die Shop, employees operated a Summit manual lathe, model number 11X32, serial number 27051 without a chuck guard, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in/struck-by hazard. c. On or about February 28, 2018, located in the Tool & Die Shop, employees operated a Delta drill press without a chuck guard, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in hazard. d. On or about February 28, 2018, located in the Extrusion Room on Microwave Line #10, there was a an ingoing nip point where the belt met the roller, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in hazard. e. On or about February 28, 2018, located in Mandrel Hose Geese Curing Room, employees operated a pneumatic American Gator Tool Speedy Air Vise to clamp down onto curing rods without guarding, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in hazard. f. On or about March 14, 2018, located in the Extrusion Room at the end of Hot Extruder Line #2, there was no guarding where the conveyor met the end roller, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in hazard. g. On or about March 21, 2018, located in the Extrusion Room at the end of Hot Extruder Line #3, there was no guarding where the conveyor met the end roller, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in hazard. h. On or about March 21, 2018, located in the Mill Room at the Wig Wag puller, employees operated the wig wag without guarding in place and when the guarding was used it was inadequate, thereby exposing the employees to a caught-in hazard.
