29 CFR 1910.1053(j)(3)(i): The employer did ensure that each employee covered by this section could demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the health hazards associated with exposure to respirable crystalline silica; specific tasks in the workplace that could result in exposure to respirable crystalline silica; specific measures the employer has implemented to protect employees from exposure to respirable crystalline silica; the contents of this section; and the purpose and a description of the medical surveillance program required by paragraph (i) of this section: a)On or about November 3, 2022 and February 28, 2023, at the facility in the mixing area, employees were using pneumatic tools to clean aggregate buildup from the mixer blades and walls. This task exposed the employees to the hazard of breathing respirable silica dust. Monitoring conducted on February 28, 2023, revealed employee exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust at 21.1 ug/m3 for an 8-hour day. Sampling was conducted for a period of 440 minutes. Zero exposure was assumed for the remaining 40 minutes.
