Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire extinguishers that were not selected and distributed based on the classes of anticipated workplace fires and the size and degree of hazard which would affect their use: (a)Jefferson County, Warsaw Township, Sprague Wingard 10 well - On or about December 22, 2008, the employer did not provide a minimum of two (2) 20 pound capacity fire extinguisher with a Class BC rating. The Walker-Neer C33A service rig had only one (1) 20 pound ABC fire extinguisher mounted on the side rack. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means to correct the condition include: 1. Complying with the applicable requirements referenced in American Petroleum Institute (API) RP 54, Section 7.2.5 Fire Protection 2. Procuring additional fire extinguisher and deploying them at the site. 3. Develop and implement a comprehensive fire protection program that analyze fire hazards and ensures proper fire protection equipment is deployed at the site to adequately deal with the fire hazards.
