29 CFR 1910.140(c): General requirements. The employer must ensure that personal fall protection systems meet the following requirements. 18) Personal fall protection systems must be inspected before initial use during each workshift for mildew, wear, damage, and other deterioration, and defective components must be removed from service. a) On or about July 13, 2023, at Rotary #1, 2, and 4, webbed slings, which were being used as anchoring devices, had not been inspected and were damaged and were not removed from service. This damage included but was not limited to the web slings were heavily abraded, frayed on the edges with no visible stitching, discolored from dust, exposed to sodium hydroxide vapors, and did not have any identifying tags.
